James Bond- Mise-En-Scene

In this scene, the use of the key light on James Bond emphasises Bonds physique and enables the audience to see his muscles and also his sweat. This suggests that he is nervous and is under pressure and also shows the audience Bond's muscles, to show his strength.
The slatted light coming from behind Bond shows the audience that he is underground. It also creates a mysterious and tensed atmosphere. The key light coming from the lantern also helps the audience acknowledge the enigmatic atmosphere. The back light coming from above suggests to the audience that there is hope that Bond will avoid being tortured and will be saved. The antagonist's physique is outlined to show the audience that he is in power, the use of the prop of the rope suggests that he is about to whip Bond. The chains hanging from the ceiling signify to the audience that this room is full of dangers and something bad may happen to him. Additionally, the fact that the antagonist is in the dark and Bond is in the light emphasises the idea that Bond is the protagonist. Though the antagonist is standing up, he is not actually as powerful as Bond because we can visually see that Bond is much stronger than , and his body language is not slouched over to show he is weak and vulnerable it is instead open which shows that he not worried about being hurt. The use of costume and props can impart enormous information about a character’s personality or state of mind. In this instance the torturer is dressed in black, representing his evil status, and he is wearing a high-necked sweater stereotypically associated with Eastern European characters. He carries a whip leaving us in no doubt that he is the villain in the scene.

Semiotic analysis

Semiotics is the study of signs and signals and there use and meanings of interpretation.
In the above advert, used to advertise Heinz Tomato Ketchup, the signifiers include a dark red backdrop, a horizontally sliced Heinz Ketchup bottle which is made out of fresh tomatos and a slogan, "No one grows Ketchup like Heinz". This advert is rather simplistic but the message being portrayed however is rather complex. As known, ketchup is loaded with preservatives and sugars, however, the use of the bottle being made out of fresh garden tomatos suggests to the target audience that ketchup is in fact healthy and fresh. The use of the word "grows" suggests that the ketchup is harvested and grown, but it is in fact made in a factory. By saying this, the marketer are successful by giving ketchup a "healthy" connotation.

The way they have shaped the ripe tomatoes as a similar shape to a actual   Heinz bottle also implies that Heinz ketchup is associated with art and culture. Furthermore the idea of it "growing" suggests that ketchup is not manufactured in a factory but is actually made from a farm.

Camera Shots and Examples

These are examples of a high angle shot, this shot is used to make the subject look powerful and also create a feeling of vulnerability.

These are example shots of a two shot, this shot is used where two characters occupy the frame simultaneously. This is often used to show the contrasting emotions or reactions of two different characters.
This shot is a example of a close up. This shot is taken near to the subject, so that the significant detail can be observed. This is used to show the audience particular detail.
This is a long shot, this is where a shot of the subject is taken from a significant distance away. This is used to emphasising the landscape above the individual, creating a sense of scale.
This a example of a dutch shot. This is a shot taken of a subject at a tilted angle, between 0-45 and 45-90 degree angle. Can be used to create a feeling of disorientation or unreality, from looking at something from an unfamiliar perspective.

This is a example of a Point of View shot. This is a shot replicating the perspective of a character or object. Can be used to put the audience "in the shoes" of the characters.
This is a example of a extreme close up. This can be used to exaggerate or emphasise a detail or characteristic of a subject.

This is a example of a Bird's Eye View, this is a shot almost from a direct overhead perspective of the subject.

This is a example of a medium shot. This is meant to replicate the viewpoint of an audience member if they were standing in the scene. This is taken from eye level. This can have many uses, and is generally used to create a naturalistic point of view.

My Description

SOPHIE OTTMANN

The media has shaped me in many ways. Social media sites such as, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
are some of the most popular sites I use daily. Twitter and Facebook are very similar and I use them to keep updated with other people and also keep others updated with my life. I use Instagram to upload pictures of my photography, friends and family, or anything I find interesting and choose to take a picture of.

My favourite type of media i like to use is Twitter and Instagram as they are easy to use and the layout is simple. I also enjoy using them as they are a way of expressing yourself and you are free to post and upload whatever you like.

Social media sites which I do not like is Tumblr. I used to use Tumblr to reblog photos but then I found it boring and gave up using it as lots of people moved onto Instagram as it was much easier to use. I very rarely use Youtube, unless I want to listen to music or there is something specific I am looking for.

I occasionally read style magazines, to keep updated with the latest fashion. Interestingly, after studying Media at GCSE, when reading magazines which have female models in I am more easily able to identify codes and conventions, and also notice how photoshop is used to give the "ideal" look of "perfection". Sometimes I dislike reading magazines as I feel they do influence young readers to look a certain way and that every one must look that way in order to look "perfect".

Overall, the media is very important to me as it is something almost everyone uses in everyday life. Google is used to search everything, such as, facts, dates, or help with anything. Media is important for keeping in touch with people and also keeping me entertained when I am bored and have nothing to do. Without the media we would be unable to connect to other places in the world
